In the wake of growing tensions between India and Pakistan especially after the Uri attack which happened last week, the relation between the neighbours seems to be soaring. An Indian journalist was on Monday asked to leave a press briefing of the Pakistan Foreign Secretary in New York. Apart from this, Pakistan has cancelled a trade exhibition which was scheduled to be held next month in India.
India on its part has decided to take strong action condemning the recent attacks at Uri, Jammu and Kashmir in India. Indian Prime Minister Modi asserted that those responsible for the terror strike will surely be punished and that the army does not speak but displays bravery. The Kashmir issue has been a bone of contention between the neighbours for many decades for which a permanent solution seems to be ambiguous in the near future. Given the scenario, such drastic and radical steps by the government will only make things worse for both the countries.
Amid all this tension comes another radical decision by the Raj Thackeray-led MNS party in Maharashtra,India who asked Pakistani actors to leave the country immediately, failing which the shooting of their movies will be stalled. MNS issued an open letter and questioned Bollywood producers and production houses over their decision to cast Pakistani actors in their films. While some popular names in Bollywood are furious about the decision, they claim that the government should focus more on how to handle the Indo-Pak issue rather than meddle with Bollywood affairs.
Bollywood is a massive industry reaching enormous number of people and catering to different audiences. This creates a need for fresh faces in Bollywood and we have bollywood imports not just from Pakistan but also from other countries like Katrina Kaif,Nargis Fakri,Amy Jackson and many more. These fresh faces have managed to create a fan base in India by creating a mark in Bollywood.
There are many Bollywood artists like Fawad Khan( He is the heart throb of millions of girls in India), Ali Zafar, Atif Aslam, Rahat Fatah Ali Khan and many more. The history of Pakistani relations in Bollywood dates back to many decades when we try to associate with names like Gulzar,Noor Jehan who have contributed to Indian cinema since British India time. They come to India to work because India offers them this opportunity at the very first place. It is not just the Pakistani actors but there mainstream media including daily soaps and cinema have found a huge fan base in India.
India has been successful in exporting Bollywood culture to many countries, across many cultures and having few Bollywood imports in such an enormous industry would only add to the benefit of our Industry. If politicians are so patriotic , why would they target Pakistani actors specifically, leaving out many IPL players and businessmen from Pakistan. Do you think it is fair on the part of the part of the politicans and government to take such radical steps? Or do you think it is just another political gimmick ? Do let us know your thoughts on this.
